Keep those unfunded mandates resolutions coming

HJR 84 – a constitutional amendment prohibiting most future unfunded mandates – was heard April 20 in House County Affairs. Numerous county officials and county organizations testified or signed in for the bill.

Rep. Garnet Coleman (D-Houston) and chair of County Affairs is HJR 84’s sponsor.

Now it is time for counties to show their support for Chairman Coleman’s bill in order to move it out of committee, into Calendars and on to the House floor.

The Texas Association of Counties has prepared a (sample resolution) in support of the bill.

If your commissioners court passes this resolution, or one crafted in your county, please e-mail a copy to TAC at elnac@county.org or fax to (512) 478-3573. Also, send a copy to your House member.

Since it would be good to get as many co-sponsors as possible, ask your representative to sign on as a co-sponsor if he or she hasn’t already done so.
