An explanation of how the Texas County & District Retirement System has weathered the recent financial storm was presented via an online webinar recently to more than 700 local officials and employers.

The 40-minute production examines details of the pension system’s diversified investment portfolio and long-term investment view with presentations by Board Chair Robert Eckels, Investment Officer Paul Williams and Director Gene Glass.

Williams discusses the dramatic 2008 market decline and its impact on the TCDRS portfolio. He reviews expected asset class returns and possible changes in the portfolio. Finally, the 2008 returns are examined in the context of similar historical declines and subsequent performance.

The webinar proved an efficient way to provide real time information to help employers with their planning and budgeting needs.  TCDRS was able to explain to employers that although rates are going up, tools are in place to smooth the rate increase and avoid single-year rate spikes.  They also reassured employers that member accounts are not affected and will continue to receive 7 percent interest and retiree payments are secure.

Viewers should set aside time to watch the in-depth production when other uses of their computers is limited.  The technology requires no other internet browsers be opened and that the webinar browser not be closed, refreshed or paused.
